Get your diary out because insideMAN is holding its first public event in September to celebrate the launch of the insideMAN book and we’d love you to be there.

We’re hosting a lively evening of debate with some of the UK’s leading commentators on men, masculinity and manhood at The Sanctuary in Central London.

The event features five great speakers who have contributed to the insideMAN book and takes place on Friday, 11th September at 7pm.

Anyone who’s interested in men’s issues in the UK will want to hear how our guests responds to our question for the evening: “If masculinity is in crisis, what needs to change, men or society?”

You can expect a challenging, thought-provoking and inspiring range of responses from our five speakers:

The #insideMANbook crowdfunder is live!

The moment you no doubt have been desperately waiting for has finally arrived — the #insideMANbook video and crowdfunder is now live!

Head over to our Indiegogo page — link at the end of this article — to watch our interviews with some of the men who have contributed to the book, learn more about what we’re doing and the various ways you can back the project.

We set up insideMAN because in the many years we both had spent thinking, writing and talking about men’s issues, the mainstream cultural conversation about gender had pretty much stuck to a single simplistic and inaccurate narrative: Women have problems, Men are problems.

But as any regular visitor to this site will know, the truth is far less black and white. From educational underachievement and fatherlessness, to homelessness and suicide, there are many grave inequalities that hit men and boys hardest.

As two men who care passionately about tackling these issues, we realised that if we’re serious about improving the lives of men and boys, first we have to change the conversation we have about them.

This book is another step in that direction.

The story of Oliver Wilson’s life is an incredible one — overcoming an upbringing scarred by poverty and abuse, he became a professional boxer, Hollywood stuntman and a bodyguard for Led Zeppelin.

But what he’s most proud of is the deep bond he has with his own children – a connection he never had with his own alcoholic father.

Oliver’s is just one of the amazing and inspiring stories by and about men that insideMAN has published over the past year and that we’re soon to turn into a real-life, hard copy book.

On Monday we’re launching a crowdfunder campaign to raise £2500 to cover the publication costs.

Once it’s live you’ll be able to support the project by pre-ordering copies of the book as a paperback, hardback or eBook, and by sharing the crowdfunder link to anyone who knows a man or a boy.

We’re publishing a book!

In just over a month, insideMAN will celebrate our first birthday. It’s been an incredible year in which we’re proud to have published literally hundreds of amazing stories about what it means to be a man today — stories that you simply wouldn’t have been able to read anywhere else.

So what better way to mark our first anniversary and celebrate this full-throated chorus of men’s voices, than by bringing the best of these stories together in one place as a ground-breaking, real-life, actually-hold-in-your-hands book?

insideMAN the book will contain everything from poignant first-person insights, such as one father’s experience of miscarriage and a young man’s battle with bulimia, taken from last year’s 100VoicesForMen series; to fascinating explorations of subjects that many of us simply take for granted – for example, why do men wear trousers anyway? It will also include practical advice from leading figures in the men’s movement on the best ways to raise awareness of the issues faced by men and boys.

But that’s not all. Oh no, not by a long shot. It will also contain new and exclusive articles from some of the UK’s leading thinkers and writers about men and masculinity, from across the political spectrum. We have articles from Martin Daubney, of Telegraph Men and former editor of Loaded; Guardian regular Ally Fogg; Tim Samuels from BBC Men’s Hour; Neil Lyndon, author of the seminal No More Sex War and the man who coined the term “metrosexual” himself, the brilliant Mark Simpson.

We just need your help to turn this into a reality.

We’re soon to launch an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to cover the £2,000 cost of publication, which we’ll promote alongside a series of specially-produced content to highlight the book’s unique and diverse stories.
