January 20, 2015 by Inside MAN Leave a Comment

5. VW Polo—Stay In Safe Hands

This clever and moving advert shows the evolving relationship of a protective father and his daughter, from the moment he first brings her home from the hospital to the day she finally leaves home, when he hands her the keys to a shiny new Polo — ensuring she “stays in safe hands”.

This is the dad ad that most British fathers can relate to?

January 20, 2015 by Inside MAN Leave a Comment

4. Halifax

Seven out of ten men think we’re stereotyped in the media and yet half of us still aspire to be like one particular man from the world of TV adverts. According to a survey by the male suicide prevention charity CALM, men  most want to be like the  overweight, beardy dad Paul Knowles who loves doing things for his family and puts “more effort into [their] holiday than most do at work. A total of 45% of men told CALM they can relate to Paul and 51% say they aspire to be like him. As the advert says, “Paul, in our eyes, you’re already a winner”.

Sainsbury’s shows Asda how to make a dad ad

3. Sainsbury’s Christmas Advert—Homecoming

In 2012, Asda’s “behind every great Christmas there’s mum (and behind mum is Asda)” advert sparked 620 complaints of sexism when it pulled off the rare feat of uniting the feminists at Mumsnet and Women’s Hour with the aggrieved dads at Fathers4Justice. The retailer responded defiantly with a survey stating eight out of ten mums who shopped at Asda supported the ad and went on to introduce a new “approved by mums” rating on a wide range of products from apples to toilet paper.

The following year Sainsbury’s released this wonderful Christmas cracker of an advert, showing Asda how to make a great dad ad in the process…..

Top marks to Cheerios for probably the best dad advert ever

1. Cheerios #HowToDad advert

This is our all time favourite example of a dad in an ad. The Cheerios #HowToDad advert, launched in Canada, has been heralded as signaling the death of the idiot dad and with a lyrical celebration of fatherhood that declares: “being awesome isn’t about breaking rules, it’s about making them…..when a rule is broken we’re the enforcement, when a heart is broken we’re the re-enforcement”.

Check out this bonus advert which tells the tearjerking story of a Thai girl who wished for a better father.
